300 Participants Took Part in Pearling Path Walkathon

As part of the 12th edition of Spring of Culture, and in cooperation with the Bahrain Road Runners (BRR), the Pearling Path Walkathon, along UNESCO World Heritage List site, 300 participants took part in this walkathon along the Pearling Path, on 25 March 2017. The walk journey started back and forth starting from Al-Ghous house in the south, to the Seyadi house in the north of Muharraq, with a total distance of 6,5 km along the 18 houses located on the pearl trail way. .

This event comes as part of Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities’ strategy to develop cultural tourism in Bahrain for sustainable development goals. The event also coincided with the appointment of H.E. Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, as “Special Ambassador for the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017” by UNWTO Headquarters in Madrid. This honor reflects the continuous efforts deployed by Bahrain to anchor culture as an important factor of local communities sustainable development.


Along 6.5 km walk, information on each property of the Pearling Path as Bahrain’s second UNESCO World Heritage site, was made available highlighting the history and story of the building and its relation to the Pearling narrative. Indeed, Pearling Path Walkathon is dedicated to enhancing the awareness of UNESCO Pearling; Testimony of Island Economy, the cultural and historical background of Bahrainis and exploring their contributions to the city of Muharraq and beyond. Information boards will be placed on all listed historical houses: Al-Ghoos House, Badr Ghuloom House, Al-Jalahma House, Al-Alawi House, Marad House and Majlis, Abdulrahman Fakhro, House, Fakhor Building and Siyadi shops at al Qaysariya Market, and last, Soyadi House, Majlis and mosque. Every house has a story to tell regarding pearl diving golden era. Muharraq will be celebrated also as the “Capital of Islamic Culture” in 2018, in parallel to the Pearling trail project completion.

Worth to mention that the 12th edition of the Spring of Culture festival boasts an array of family related events and will run until April 2017, ranging from concerts, forums, theater, cinema, exhibitions, workshops to be held in different locations in Bahrain.
