Boat Making Workshop

Al Jasra Crafts Centre organises a Boat Making Workshop. This craft is one of the traditional industries that the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain have been famous for since ancient times, and which have been associated with them as a nation that lives on the sea and its sailors go to different ports of the world. Bahrainis excelled in the crafting of boats, so their names and uses have varied, including Al Banoush, Al Shuai, Al Boom, Al Baghlah and other types that are used in fishing, pearl diving, and transporting passengers and goods. Residents of Al Naeem and Ras Rumman areas in Manama have always been pioneers in this profession. The residents of the city of Muharraq also excelled in practicing this profession, especially in the coastal area of ​​the city. The person who makes wooden ships is called “Al Qallaf.”

Workshop details:

  • Identifying the types of wood used for manufacturing the ship model.
  • Learning how to chop wood to create the ship model.
  • Learning how to draw and carve pieces of wood and sanding.
  • Learn how to configure ship attachments.

Making a wooden ship model.
