Top musical acts Musicians Without Borders, Massimo Mercelli and Mojca Vajgl, and Yazz Ahmed slated to take the stage of the Cultural Hall

The 2016 Bahrain International Music Festival’s concerts scheudled to take place at the Cultural Hall feature three top musical acts from contrasting genres, including the diverse music ensemble Musicians Without Borders (Oct 14), Bahraini-British artist Yazz Ahmed (Oct 15), and classical instrument virtuosos Massimo Mercelli and Mojca Zlobko Vajgl (Oct 19).

In their concert “The Sound of Peace”, Bahrain-based band Musicians Without Borders will perform a dozen original works inspired by the diverse heritage of the band’s five members - Saad Jawad (Iraq, oud), Ahmed Ghawas (Bahrain, bouzouki), Ibantuta (France, guitar), Carlos Villarroel (Argentina, bass guitar, and Ahmed Maany (Egypt, percussion) - which they blend together to create a unique sound centered around a message of harmony between the people of the world.

“Alhaan Al-Siduri” features the innovative melancholy melodies of Bahraini-British trumpet player and composer Yazz Ahmed. A distinctive voice in the UK jazz scene and cultural ambassador who has represented Bahrain and the UK in several cross-cultural platforms, her concert’s compositions are inspired by her dual heritage of traditional seafaring chants of Bahraini pearl divers and women’s wedding songs infused with elements of contemporary jazz and electronica.

Fans of classical music will enjoy the brilliant play of a pair of world-famous musicians, the Italian flautist Massimo Mercelli and Slovenian harpist Mojca Zlobko Vajgl. Their concert, “European Classics for Flute and Harp”, features select pieces from the rich classical musical repertoire written by some of the greatest European composers of all-time for two of the most famous and ubiquitous instruments in European classical traditions.

Now in its 25th year, the 2016 Bahrain International Music Festival takes place from October 13 – 22. Tickets for the concerts, which are only held at the National Theatre, can be purchased through Virgin Megastore’s online ticket portal or its store in Bahrain City Centre.
