H.E Shaikha Mai Receives Italian Delegation from Torino Albertina Arts Academy “Honorary Academician “ Letter Presented

H.E Shaikha Mai bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities President, received on 19 March 2017 an Italian delegation from the city of Torino. The Italian Ambassador to Bahrain, Mr. Domenico Bellato presented H.E with an invitation to visit the city for an honor ceremony to be held this year, after being nominated and elected as a “Honorary Academician “member of the Albertina Arts Academy, Torino, Italy.

H.E Shaikha Mai bin Mohammed Al Khalifa expressed her deep appreciation and gratitude for this honorary membership title, hailing the exceptional presence and participation of Italy in Bahrain’s cultural events and activities. President of Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities stressed her keenness to build bridges of communication between the Kingdom of Bahrain and friendly countries such as Italy, praising the constructive cooperation between the two sides during “Our year of Archaeology 2017”. BACA President highlighted the significance of cooperation in enriching cultural activities, shedding lights on BACA’s role as an icon of Bahrain’s position as an international, cultural, regional and civilizational lighthouse.

The delegation included academicians from Albertina Arts Academy, Torino Musical Academy and Messina University. The members expressed their happiness to nominate H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa as “Honorary Academician “member of the Albertina Arts Academy, Torino, Italy, lauding the constructive work she is doing in order to preserve and safeguard local heritage and promote dialogue through culture worldwide. Indeed, the Academy of Turin is one of the oldest in Italy which was formally founded in 1678 as the Academy of Painters, Sculptors and Architects.

Cultural relations between Bahrain and Italy have led to many common events organized between both sides, least to mention the mention that recent Italian Architect Francesco Librizzi lecture during the current 12th edition of Spring of Culture festival 2017. Indeed, the occasion of the first Italian Design Day, launched by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, Bahrain Authority For Culture & Antiquities, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, organized the renowned Italian architect Francesco Librizzi lecture on “Archetype, Prototype, Stereotype”. In addition, H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa, attended Turin Islamic Economic Forum (TIEF) held in Torino, Italy, in the presence of many executives from Arab, Islamic and European countries, high political and finance figures and personalities. Worth to mention also that the first opera to perform on Bahrain National Theater stage was Giuseppe Verdi, Rigoletto, led by Maria Cristina Mazzavillani Muti of Italy’s Ravenna Festival, this version of Verdi’s popular opera founder, in 2013.
