H.E BACA President Participates in the 10th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers

H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities (BACA) took part in the 10th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers, held under the theme "Towards a Sustainable Cultural Development of Future Cities in the Islamic World", in the Sudanese Capital, Khartoum. The conference kicked off on 21 November 2017, under the patronage of Sudanese President Omar Al Beshir, and will continue until November 23rd . Sudan’s hosting of the conference is part of celebrating "Sennar Capital of Islamic Culture 2017".

The conference is co-organized by the Islamic, Educational, Scientific and Cultural organization (ISESCO) and the Sudanese Ministry of Culture, in coordination with the Secretariat General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Speaking for the occasion, H.E Shaikha Mai stressed the importance of “Preserving the Arab and Islamic civilizational heritage as the best way to promote the beautiful image of the Arab and Islamic countries”. H.E also underlined the need to maintain historical and archaeological sites in order to foster the cultural identity of the Arab and Islamic world.

H.E added saying “ we will be waiting for you to come and visit Muharraq, celebrated as "Capital of Islamic Culture 2018", and we will present you a new town on the verge of challenging transformations; we plan to inaugurate more than 20 projects, including mainly Pearling: Testimony of an Island Economy, which is on UNESCO World Heritage List.” H.E also pointed out the need to adopt sustainable development strategies to boost the welfare of Islamic peoples, stressing that Bahrain presents a model in using the cultural aspects to achieve sustainable development and preserve the inherent cultural identity of the Bahraini people.

The conference is attended by more than 168 participants of ministers of culture of the member states of ICO, experts and representatives of concerned Arab, Islamic and international organizations. The participants will shed light on guideline principles; culture and its relationship with cities and ways and means of preserving cultural heritage. The conference agenda will also discuss the DG strategy to be implemented in the Islamic world.

The two-day meeting is planned to discuss a number of issues namely a report concerning the implementation of the cultural strategy in the Islamic countries, amendments on the cultural strategy project in the Islamic countries. The meeting will also tackle the guidelines concerning culture and city project, amendments on the rules of procedure of the advisory council assigned to implement the cultural strategy in Islamic countries, rules of procedure of the Islamic conference at the culture ministers level and the agenda of the 10th Islamic conference at the level of culture ministers due to be held in November. The participants agreed that the conference is held amid complicated regional and international challenges, warning against the escalation of the extremism and terrorism which will affect negatively the human values and violate the international charters.

In celebration of the project of Sennar Capital of Islamic Culture 2017, participants will visit the town of sennar to attend the inauguration of its cultural and media center, sennar Museum and cultural and tourist village.
