UNESCO Director-General Visits a Number of Bahraini Heritage Sites

On the sidelines of  the 42nd meeting of the World Heritage  Committee meeting, held yesterday on 24 June 2018 in Manama, UNESCO Director-General, Mrs. Audery Azoulay, visited a number visited a number of Bahraini UNESCO World Heritage List sites.

Mrs. Audery Azoulay’s first visit was to the second listed site on the World Heritage List, namely Pearling: Testimony of an Island Economy, when she was got acquainted with the marvelous heritage site of Bu Maher Fort and its Visitor Center. The visit came after her first stop at the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), mandated with the mission of safeguard of world heritage in all different Arab countries. UNESCO Director-General had previously also visited, on 23 June 2018, Qala’at al Bahrain Fort ( the 1st site registered on the World Heritage List), and toured the magnificent Fort Museum where memorable artifacts are perfectly set and arranged to reflect the deeply-rooted history of the site.

Worth to mention that the 42nd meeting of the World Heritage Committee chaired by Bahrain, is being held under the High Patronage of  His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa , May God Protect Him, from 24-June until 4 July 2018 at the “UNESCO Village”, a special temporary complex set up by BACA in the vicinity of Ritz Carlton Hotel that is supporting  this event. The “UNESCO village” is made up of a central main special tent, which will be setup at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain Hotel in Manama. “Ammar Basheir Studio for Art , the Creative Design”  bureau masterminded the elaboration and idea design of the “ UNESCO Village”, given that the same office had already succeeded to promote the brand image of the Kingdom of Bahrain in international events as a representative of Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities.
