East Riffa House’s First Spring of Culture’s Music Concert, Dar Al Riffa Al-Sagheera First Evening of Sweet Traditional Folk Music

On 2 March 2019, the 14th Edition of the Spring of Culture Festival’s first evening of sweet traditional folk music organized by Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities Kicked off at Dar Riffa,  and was  by Al-Dar Al-Sagheera Music  Band.

During the evening of music concert, the band played most gracefully a selection of popular well-known acoustic heritage traditions, reflecting sailors’ challenge and hope, in search for the precious “pearls”. The audience enjoyed  Bahrain’s most original and characteristic musical genre, fidjeri, or “sea music.” These songs, consisting of an all-male chorus and solo singer with minimal percussion, often accompanied specific and common actions, like rowing, setting sails, and pulling up the anchor.

Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities continues its strenuous efforts to safeguard the Kingdom’s intangible heritage and works on its promotion and spreading, through these popular folk music evenings and concerts. Worth to mention that Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities inaugurated Dar Al Riffa in December 2017, a year baptized as “Our year of Archaeology”, which was dedicated to establish a vivid and fervent sustainable cultural infrastructure as planned and masterminded by Bahrain Culture Authority
