H.E Shaikha Mai Receives Ms.  Houda Nonoo, Cooperation to preserve Manama’s historical places of worship discussed

 

H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammad Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, received, on 26 August 2020, Ms. Houda Nonoo, the Former member of the Bahrain Consultative Council and the Former ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States of America, at her office to discuss their cooperation in the preservation of the aspects of cultural and religious diversity in the old city of Manama.

H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa said during the meeting that the historical city of Manama stands as the symbol of ancient civilizational and historical rich heritage of co-existence, tolerance and peace between all faiths and religious belief, reflected clearly in its genuine urban fabric, a mosaic harmonious co-existence of all sorts of places of worship.   H.E added that Manama is a cosmopolitan city where real religious pluralism is already manifested, noting that the followers of all religions and races live there safety and practice their rituals freely and peacefully, asserting that in the heart of Manama there has always been a harmonious co-existence among Christians, Hindus, Jews and others.

In addition, H.E thanked Ms. Houda Nonoo for her constant cooperation with regard to the safeguard and preservation of places of worship in the historical city of Manama, a city that Bahrain Culture Authority is currently deploying strenuous efforts to nominate to the Preparatory UNESCO World Heritage List, as a living example, a unique model for peace and co-existence. 

Ms. Houda Nonoo, lauded, for her part, the outstanding efforts deployed by Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities to safeguard and preserve the Tangible and Intangible Heritage of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its genuine historical cities, voicing her constant readiness to collaborate fully with the Culture Authority with regard to the enhancement of Manama’s symbol as a center for cultural and civilizational tolerance and peaceful co-existence meeting point.
