“ Food Is Culture 5”  as a Creative Horizons’ Exploration, Kicks off at Bahrain National Museum

The 2020 edition of “Food is Culture 5” was launched  Sunday the, yesterday on 26 January at the Bahrain National Museum, in the presence of Her Excellency Shaikha Hala bint Mohammad Al Khalifa, Director General of Arts & Culture at the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, artists, culture figures, enthusiasts and media personalities.

Before the start of this  evening of creative horizons’ exploration of art and culinary recipes, H.E  Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director-General of Culture & Arts, at the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, welcomed the audience, thanking all those who have contributed to the success of this event. H.E said “ The edition of Food Is Culture 5 comes with new perspectives bridging gaps between cuisine arts and visual fine arts’ talents, creating a unique and an exceptional experience to be enjoyed by the Bahraini public”.  H.E Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa also pointed out that this event reflects Bahrain’s Culture Authority chosen theme for this year “ Dilmun, The Land of Density”, running for five successive days to offer the audience and the large public an opportunity to enjoy Bahraini artistic creative duels, bringing together culinary art with visual and fine arts’ perspectives.   

The first collaboration  brought  together chef Hessa Hamoud Al Khalifa and VR artist Nayla Rashid Al Khalifa, working on a common project presented as “ Silk Road”. Virtual Reality artist, Ms. Nayla Rashid Al Khalifa masterminded a work of art based on virtual reality, shedding lights on five countries along the famous Chinese Silk Road, namely China, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Syria and Italy. The artist added that this gorgeous art work presents to the viewer five gates inlaid with urban and cultural aspects relative to each country, pointing out to the symbolic representation of the ‘gate’, opening doors to explore unseen world of culture and history. Chef Hessa Hamoud Al Khalifa,  tried to showcase five different tastes, recipes and similar food odors from five countries along the Silk Road, trying to convince the viewer that food is the utmost undervalued form of artistic expression in the history of art, and is still considered a separate form of emotional and creative expression – maintaining its desire for inclusiveness and full support of the art world.  

Food is Culture, which  is a creative experimental project that aims to bridge together the mediums of art and food, will run until 30 January 2020 on daily basis at 7:00 pm, at Bahrain National Museum,  gathering five artists and five chefs get together and work to produce a creative product; be it a painting, installation, video, cake, drink, all or something completely different. This creative experience combines two forms of art, bringing together different schools of thought and talented chefs who try to come out with unordinary work of art.

The second collaboration in “Food is Culture 5” on Monday, 27th of January, at 7pm at the Bahrain National Museum Foyer, will bring together chef Lulwa Suwaileh and artist Ishaq Madan, while , on  28 January, Chef Dana Abdulrahman will be accompanied by Jeweler Designer, Aisha Abdulmalek. Chef Bassam Al-Alawi and artist Mariayam Al-Noaimi will meet together for a creative culinary-artistic masterpiece, on 29 January and Chef Mariayam Chakeeb and Chef Fooz Janahi will animate an amazing evening with Oracle Project Band on the final day of the events,  on 30 January 2020.
