Manama Capital of Arab Tourism celebrates Opera with Placido Domingo
From tenor to baritone, Domingo displays a rare kind of mastery over his voice and has forged an astonishingly long and successful career through a combination of talent and tenacity. Opera legend Placido Domingo returns to Bahrain this November for the Bahrain National Theatre’s first anniversary accompanied by the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, conducted by Maestro Eugene Kohn. The tenor's spectacular debut was one of the highlights of Month of Theatre within the “Manama Arab Capital of Culture 2012” festivities.
The organizing Committee has announced that tickets will be sold at the Virgin Megastore in Bahrain’s City Center and online at (http://www.virginmegastore.me). Following a special invitation by legendary tenor Placido Domingo, Ailyn Pérez will make her debut in the Kingdom of Bahrain next month in concert at the National Theater with Domingo and Russian soprano Julia Novikova. Eugene Kohn will lead the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz for the performance. Pérez and Domingo have a long history together, but haven’t performed together since the tenor’s gala at Royal Opera House in 2011 when they sang the Act III duet from Rigoletto.
Known for the command and versatility of his voice, Domingo cemented his status as one of the most celebrated artists of our time with a repertoire that boasts over 140 stage roles, extensive recordings, and countless awards and honors that include 12 Grammy Awards. During his career, Domingo has tackled some of the opera world’s most demanding roles: Otello, Siegmund, Rigoletto, and Simon Boccanegra.
The program consists of a selection of arias and duets from operas, operettas, musicals, zarzuelas and popular songs. Known for the command and versatility of his voice, Domingo is one of the most celebrated artists of our time with a repertoire that boasts over 140 stage roles, extensive recordings, and countless awards and honors that include 12 Grammy Awards. Domingo’s voice is large and very masculine, and he always exhibits unfailing intelligence and musicality in his performances. His acting is committed and intense.
There is no tenor in history who has worked harder on his art than Placido Domingo. He has countless albums of Spanish songs, from the classical to the most popular and has even written a few of his own. He has single-handedly brought back the greatest examples of zarzuela to the Los Angeles stage, bringing with him some very gifted Latin American artists previously unheard in America. He has recorded albums of tangos and mariachi music, and all the differing styles of Spanish music that have come to life over the last 100 years.
