Arab Ministers of Tourism and Their Executive Councils’ delegations Visit to Bahrain National Theatre
Beautiful architecture and culture are tightly related to each other. In a sense, architecture is the carrier of culture. Styles of Bahraini ancient architecture are rich and varied, such as temples, forts, altars, pavilions, official residencies and folk houses, which greatly reflect ancient thought - the harmonious unity of human beings with local nature. Hence, the Executive Committee of the Arab Tourism Ministers Council, which is holding its meeting in Bahrain made a visit to the icon of the National Theatre on 30th October 2013. Arab Ministers of Tourism, Arab league representatives, Arab and World Tourism Organizations, Arab Tourism Writers Union, and many diplomats and prominent personalities also made the visit to the seaside national pride building.
On first viewing, what is immediately noticeable about the theatre is its expansive central space, which is also linked to the national museum, its lagoon setting and its shimmering gold roof.
The guests were amazed and astonished how the lagoon was an existing feature that was built into and topped up with water to create the front promenade, while the roof was designed to be a “shimmering gold jewel”. To achieve this effect, the stainless steel cladding panels were cut to size and sent to UK-based firm Rimex, which applied a special chemical treatment. The Theatre is a nation-wide source of pride and glory, which will enrich the cultural life in the country.
