H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa, the Minister of Culture, received British Ambassador Iain Lindsay and newly-appointed British Council director-general Tony Calderbank and discussed joint cooperation on 16th June, 2014. H.E discussed with the British envoy ways of bolstering cultural cooperation between the two countries in thje future.
The minister welcomed Mr. Calderbank, wishing him an enriching experience in Bahrain. The new British Council director-general, for his part, expressed his delight to work in Bahrain so as to build on the years he served in the Arab region. The Minister of Culture explained that within its next strategy, Manama is keen to be informed about world experiences, stressing the importance of enhancing means of humanitarian and cultural exchange between Bahrain and Britain and launching projects that foster rapprochement between civilizations and exchange of human values.
During the meeting, H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa, Minister of Culture, hailed the joint cultural relations, and underlined the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts to enrich the next year with various types of cultural and artistic programs under the theme “ The Year of Art” and the fruitful co-operation through the British Cultural Week. The two British officials commanded the ministry's efforts to conserve deep-rooted national heritage and revamp monuments so as to preserve the historic urban fabric, particularly in Manama.
