Keeping up with the tradition of representing the Kingdom of Bahrain in international cultural events, the Ministry of Culture has participated in the 66th edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2014 to showcase its literary and historical experiences.
Bahrain's delegation showcased local artistic, literary, and historical publications and was keen on cultural exchanges with the participating countries. On the sidelines of the Book Fair, many cultural and literary workshops and debate sessions were held with the participation of leading writers and lecturers from around the world.
Highlighting a rich programme to mark Bahrain's participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2014, which also displayed fine arts and photo exhibitions, Bahrain’s stand included an historical showcase of plastic Arts in Bahrain as part of “Our Year of Art” program; additionally Bahraini artists specialized in oil paintings, murals and sculpture were also present.
The Fair hosted 7275 exhibitors from 102 nations, 631 literary agents, about 9300 journalists, of which there were 1000 bloggers, 275.342 visitors and 170.664 professional visitors.
Finland was the Guest of Honour of the Frankfurt Book Fair this year as part of a long tradition by the exhibition dating back to 1988, which consists in selecting an annual guest of honour. Over the last few years, the Frankfurt Book Fair has undergone a steady transformation from a traditional, transactional rights fair to a gathering place for creators, technologists, and futurists. The exhibition is held between 8th-12th October.
