Bahrain Culture & Archaeology Authority organized an honoring ceremony for the former Culture &Arts director, Mr. Abdulqader Aqeel, who has ended many years of commitment to culture and arts in Bahrain. The ceremony was held at the museum hall cafeteria on 5 October 2015.

H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa expressed her greatest gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful work undergone throughout many years by Mr. Abdul Qader Aqeel, who has dedicated his professional life to culture, arts, and supervising international outdoor events and festivals. Recognizing excellence and achievement in the field of arts and culture, the award reflected the outstanding commitment of Mr. Aqeel to superb programming and professionalism that has made a significant contribution to community life and the culture sector in Bahrain.

Mr. Aqeel, for his part, also expressed his “deepest appreciation, humility and gratitude” at receiving this prestigious memorial award designed by artist Khaled Al-Farhan. He added that strenuous efforts should be made and continued to promote and enhance culture and heritage in Bahrain by the next generation of art lovers and he also stated that BACA, under the leadership of H.E Shaikha Mai, who has demonstrated a strong commitment to engaging in the arts, heritage, and cultural learning practices, will continue its bright success.

The former Culture & Arts director, Mr. Aqeel, is novelist, short story writer, essayist, translator, and poet. He has served as editor-in-chief at Al Bahrain Al-Thaqafia, the president of Bahrain’s Writers and Authors Circle, and has participated to create many periodicals. Through countless cultural events he has helped build awareness amongst Bahrainis and residents alike about the importance of promoting, protecting, preserving and celebrating Bahrain’s unique culture, heritage, and way of life. Mr. Abdul Qader Aqeel also has many publications, ranging from novels, short stories, children books, and articles.
