Tunisian Music Ensemble Concert Wasla as part of 24th Bahrain Music Festival

The 24th edition of Bahrain Music Festival second concert presented Wasla by the Tunisian Music Ensemble at the Cultural Hall on 10 October 2015 at 8:00 pm. Taking place from October 8 – 19, the 24th edition of this annual event features a diverse lineup of acclaimed musical innovators from Bahrain and around the world.

Bahrain Authority for Culture and & Antiquities (BACA) started the concert by congratulating Tunisia’s National Dialogue Quartet for their selection as winners of the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize. The Authority asserted that music, arts and culture are capable of spreading peace and love in Arab societies and all over the world.

The National Music Ensemble of Tunis presents Wasla, a delightful artistic journey of compositions and songs which showcase the numerous eclectic styles and genres that collectively comprise the vast and rich heritage of traditional Tunisian music.

Tunisian National Music Ensemble was established 20 years ago to introduce and present Tunisian music to the world; its characteristics, rhythms and poetry. It was the space that allowed many great composers to gather and write fabulous music. The ensemble has performed many successful concerts around the world and music lovers still long for more memorable times with the group.

The Bahrain Music Festival inaugural show featured an elegant adaption of Leo Tolstoy’s masterpiece novel Anna Karenina by the much-heralded Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg led by its artistic director Boris Eifman. The show took place on the evenings of October 8 and 9 at the Bahrain National Theatre.

Bahrain Authority for Culture & Archaeology would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to the Economic Development Board, French embassy, Tunisian embassy and the Mexican embassy for sponsoring this festival and their social role in promoting culture. Commenting on the announcement, H.E. Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa expressed her delight with the return of the festival, saying, “The continuity of the festival nourishes and breathes new life into the music scene in Bahrain and enriches the experience of citizens and residents of Bahrain.” H.E. Shaikha Mai further emphasized not only the human and cultural aspects of the festival, but also the entertainment value of it, saying, “Music is an open window from which to view the world and get to know the essence of so many cultures and the heritage behind them, and this is what we hope to achieve through the festival. This is especially relevant at this time as we celebrate ‘Our Year of Heritage’ year-long campaign.
