As part of the 10th Spring of Culture festival, Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, in collaboration with the Red Bull Music Academy, was pleased to present ‘Symphonies of the Self’, a combined eclectic concert with a documentary film in honor of the late Majeed Marhoon. The concert took place on the 8th and 9th of April 2016 at the Cultural Hall.
During the two days, the Bahrain National Orchestra performed Majeed Marhoon’s monumental compositions (1945-2010). He was the first Bahraini musician to compose symphonies for classical music for an orchestra. ‘Symphonies of the Self’ is a musical production that aims to preserve the works of the late Bahraini composer, Majeed Marhoon, through a concert and documentary. The concert featured a song performed by Salman Zaiman, the founder of Ajrass band, along with electronic reinterpretations of Marhoon’s works performed by Hasan Hujairi, Esam “Cosmo” Hammad, and international Electronic artists Henrik Schwarz and Bugge Wasseltoft.
This exceptional music concert was the fruit of collaboration between Ajraas Band, Malja Bahrai, BMMI, German Embassy, Union Plastic, Novotel Hotel, Elements Cine Productions, the Weekender newspaper and Virgin Megastore.
Marhoon’s compositions have been recognized by international academies and played by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and the German Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others.
