Fado Portuguese Star, Mariza, Concert Tickets Still on Sale, At the National Theater for the First Time

For the first time since its establishment in 2012, Bahrain National Theater will host on 11 February 2016 Mariza dos Reis Nunes, one of the most popular fado stars of the 20th century. She will be combining traditional Portuguese folk style with the contemporary sounds of gospel, soul and jazz. Tickets are still available at Virgin Bahrain City Centre or online through http://www.virginmegastore.me.

Just like the blues from the USA, the flamenco from Spain, and the tango from Argentina, fado, the unique traditional music from Portugal, is a gift to all music lovers worldwide. So much so that it has been designated as a UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage. Blessed with a voice that touches one’s very soul, Portuguese singer Mariza is one of the genre’s foremost ambassadors. For one night only, the Kingdom of Bahrain will bear witness to her vocal talents which she uses to embody the spirit of the genre. This spirit can be encapsulated in four simple words: passionate, elegant, sensitive and melancholic.

Known as “The Voice of Fado”, her talent garnered widespread critical acclaim as one of the most important singers in modern world music and she has won multiple prestigious international awards. She also became the first Portuguese singer nominated and awarded at the American Grammy Awards.

The concert comes at a time when Bahrain’s Authority for Culture & Antiquities is deploying great efforts to promote the country as a cultural tourism destination by celebrating this year as “Bahrain Your Destination 2016”.
