As part of its constant quest to unearth the hidden secrets and wonders of the various civilizations that settled in Bahrain throughout the ages, with special focus on Dilmun the Cradle of Civilization, Qala’at al Bahrain Site Museum presents a lecture on ‘The Artistic Value of Dilmun Seals Between Analysis and Significance’. The lecture will be given by Mrs. Zainab Siwar at the Conference Hall at Bahrain Fort, at 7:00 pm on 3 May 2016 and is open to the public.
The Bahrain National Museum has a wonderful display which shows that, unlike Egyptian and Mesopotamian tablets and cylinders, the Dilmun legacy was discovered on circular seals. The primitive forms of images carved on the seals indicate they were used as charms or talisman. Carved on wood, soapstone shells or metal, these images clearly define a complex society.
This and more will be the focus of Zainab’s lecture on Dilmunian seals and will dazzle the attendees with stories of their great ancestors which will include seals of Gilgamesh as a massive and heroic figure, the 'Bull of Heaven' hat and seals depicting Ladies of the Mountain 'Inanas' servants wearing her triangle signs depicting space for her power.
Zainab Siwar holds a master's degree in art education from Helwan University and has taken part in many activities and exhibitions inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain.
