As part of Bahrain’s Authority for Culture & Antiquities, Bahrain National Museum hosted on Wednesday 18 May 2016, at 14:00 pm, an exhibition titled ‘Intersections’, followed by a music concert at 8:00 pm in cooperation by the French Embassy. The Bahrain National Museum strives to preserve the memory of the island and its millennia old heritage. Opened in 1988, the permanent display illustrates the historical development of Bahrain and its rich archeological landscape. The exhibition ‘Intersections’ is a temporary exhibition set up in three permanent halls (Dilmun, Tylos and Islam Hall). The pop-up exhibition was conceived to foster a meaningful experience for the visitors by presenting a new reading of the existing display. Over the past two decades emerging archaeological evidence have contributed to a better understanding of the political and socio-cultural setting in Bahrain and a revision of previously established typologies has been undertaken. By adding new artifacts and redeploying existent ones, this exhibit illustrates new arguments in new contexts, hence permitting additional interpretations. The 19 new displays also attempt to establish a link between the showcased artifacts and their wider contexts of discovery.
The Musica Nigella Collective of Musicians brings together artists from various backgrounds to perform a repertoire of classical and modern music, structured around the execution of instrumental and lyrical pieces by French composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. For the performance at the Bahrain National Museum, Musica Nigella will showcase three artists: Anne-Cécile Cuniot (flute), Nicolas Ducloux (piano) and Catherine Trottmann (mezzo-soprano).
Every May 18 since 1977 the International Council of Museums (ICOM) invites the museum community worldwide to be active key players in their societies and celebrate International Museum Day. This year, ICOM proposes the theme ‘Museums and Cultural Landscapes’ and encourages museums to actively manage and preserve their landscapes.
Bahrain celebrates every year this special event and BACA has announced that the four museums in Bahrain, including Bahrain National Museum, Qala’at al Bahrain Site Museum, Shaikh Salman Bin Ahmad Al-Fateh Museum and Bahrain Post Museum will allow free entry on Wednesday 18 May 2016 to celebrate National Museums Day.
