Bahrain Culture Authority Announces Kick off Registration for the Handicrafts and Traditional and Creative Industries program, At Al-Jasra Handicrafts Center from 22 May

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities has just announced today, 11 May 2021, the kick off registration for the workshops and training program at Al Jasra Handicraft Center, whereby those interested in crafts and manual artistic work can register in various workshops. The series of workshops will start after the Eid Al-Fitr holiday celebrations on 22 May and will continue until early September. Registration is via BACA’s official website on www.culture.gov.bh

Traditional handicrafts are one of the most important elements of the intangible heritage, an exceptional material investment considering that each reproduction is unique depending on social, geographical, environmental eco-systematic factors. Cultural institutions are moving towards sustaining handicrafts, protecting them from extinction and preserving these crafts as core elements of national heritage. Through the “Made in Bahrain” initiative, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities revisits the visual and functional identity of Bahraini handmade products as a cultural expression that has stood the test of time and is reflective of national local identity.

In addition, the workshops and handicraft training program includes ten traditional and creative crafts’ workshops aimed at training participants in traditional craft industries s and handicrafts in the Kingdom of Bahrain and creative industries, including: Al-Naqda, palm Fronds Weaving (knitting with palm leaves), Clay Shaping (pottery), hand embroidery, silver crafting, macramé weaving (threads and strings knitting), Resin formation and 3D printing.

In compliance with the precautionary measures to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and to preserve the safety of the trainees and trainers, participation is permitted only for those who have been vaccinated against the Coronavirus and a limited number of participants, as all this detailed information can be obtained upon registration and visiting the authority's website.
