Celebrating Fijjri Art, “Nahma: a Gulf Polyphony” Project was launched at the Pearling Path Visitor Center

The Pearling Path Visitor Center at “ Pearling “ Testimony of an Island Economy” site hosted, on 28 November 2021, a project launch of “Nahma: A Gulf Polyphony”, in the presence of H.E Shaikha Hala Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director General of Culture and Arts at BACA, as well as a selection of culture lovers in Bahrain.

“Nahma: A Gulf Polyphony” project, a FLEE platform multimedia initiative, is made up of a vinyl record album of authentic folk music clips and songs performed by pearl divers, and a book documenting a synopsis of contributors to the project, such as writers, artists and experts.

The album launch was followed by panel discussion shedding light on Fijjri art, in the presence of Mr. Talal Matar (Mattar Jewelers) and Mr. Hasan Hujairi, stressing the importance of Intangible Cultural Heritage components in the city of Muharraq where located the Pearling Path, a UNESCO World Heritage List site.


The propjet, a multimedia initiative focusing on the music and sounds of pearl divers, aims to celebrate and commemorate the sweetest memorial unique culture and music of these pearl divers via multimedia tools, such an album and a book eternalizing their deeds and transmitting these cultural elements to future generations. The album features music clips produced by a number of artists.
