Bahrain Culture Authority’s Workshop on “The Basic Principals of Translation Skills” in cooperation the University of Bahrain

On International Translation Day, celebrated annually on the 30thof September, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, in cooperation with the University of Bahrain, organizes a workshop on “The Basic Principles of Translation Skills” on 28-29 September 2021.   The lecture will be presented by Dr. Dheya Saqer Aljalahma, Assistant Professor of Translation Studies and the Head of the Department of English Language & Literature at the University of Bahrain, and held at Al-Khalifiyah Library, Muharraq. This workshop main targets translators and graduates of English language, translation and other majors who are seeking to enhance their literary translation skills. The workshop is organized afternoon (between 6 pm-8pm) and fully vaccinated individuals , or those  who have recovered from COVID-19 Corona virus, above 19 years-old, are invited to register in advance to attend this event via BACA’s official website on www.culture.gov.bh 

The workshop aims to introduce participants to the basic features and procedures of translating literary and cultural texts and deals with translation from a cultural perspective. In addition, it also aims to familiarize participants with the basic concepts of literary translation and research skills of specialized terminology through the use of online resources, in addition to methods of translation for different text types. The workshop also provides practical techniques for translating literary texts and covers the following topics: types of texts, vocabulary selection and its cultural implications, cultural aspects of translation, strategies for literary translation and translating figurative style.

 Worth to mention that Dr. Dheya Aljalahma is an Assistant Professor of Translation Studies. She has graduated with a PhD in Translation Studies from Salford University, UK in 2013.Dr. Dheya has been serving as the Head of the Department of English Language and Literature since 2017. Dr. Al-Jalahma has accumulated significant levels of translation expertise, comparative analysis, text analysis, Arabization of terms and specialized translation (legal, scientific, media, diplomatic and literary translation).
