H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, received, on 16 September 2021, Member of Parliament, His Excellency Mr. Ebrahim Al-Nafiei, and discussed with him the increasing efforts to preserve and rehabilitate the cultural heritage of Muharraq.

H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa thanked His Excellency Mr. Ebrahim Al-Nafiei for his efforts made to support and coordinate with Bahrain Culture Authority with regard to safeguard and preserve the genuine ancient heritage of the city of Muharraq, the most important historical city in Bahrain and one of the oldest in the Gulf. H.E asserted that today Muharraq is considered a regional and international pioneering cultural center, a model for cultural infrastructure enhancement and sustainable urban development.  A model for upgrading a cultural preservation project to achieve urban regeneration can be established by cultural preservation as well as socioeconomic revitalization that benefits multiple stakeholders, H.E added.

Member of Parliament, His Excellency Mr. Ebrahim Al-Nafiei,for his part said that by correct identification of renovation, preservation, and development opportunities along with full cooperation between various governmental bodies and the local community, Bahrain Culture Authority projects to develop the cultural infrastructure in the cities of Bahrain, especially Muharraq,   have superseded the status of a historical site into becoming a key player in the area’s cultural rebirth. Indeed, the most significant accomplishment of Bahrain Pearling Trail regeneration project is how it revitalized Muharraq, combining historic storytelling of the region’s pearl industry with cultural preservation while generating direct economic benefits. MP voiced his constant support and readiness to cooperate with Bahrain Culture Authority to achieve these challenging projects in Muharraq and help safeguard its cultural and historical precious assets
