Fourteen Craftsmen and Craftswomen Graduate from Al-Jasra Handicrafts in cooperation with BIPA as part of the “Professional Trainer” Program

Fourteen male and female artisans received their graduation certificates after successful completion of their training course, titled “Professional Trainer Program for Bahraini Handicrafts and Industries", which was organized at the center's headquarters in cooperation with the Institute of Public Administration (BIPA). The course comes as part of Al-Jasra Handicrafts Center to develop and promote the traditional crafts and industries in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The one-year program, 2020-2021, focuses on developing the right efficient training skills and knowledge to be self-employed artisans and seek to enhance their artistic and technical experience in order to gain employment in leadership roles in the profession. The high-quality educational course also aims to transfer knowledge and expertise to trainees during these workshops organized by the Center. The fundamental elements of the program also included material preparations, turning skills into a product, creativity and development - Producing matter, linking various crafts for potential collaboration- weaving different crafts together

In addition, the “Professional Trainer” program has helped to enhance the qualifications and widen the horizons of bright future traditional craft professionals. Indeed, craftsmen apprenticeship-training program aims to upskill participants, advance local craft, expand the artisan value chain and support the transfer of knowledge and skills from Master artisans to the younger generation in an effort to enable cooperation between artists and designers alike. It also included transfer of knowledge, provide crafts training- a transmission from the Master Artisan to the Apprentice Artisan, develop creative skills and expand the Artisan value chain.

Indeed, Bahrain Culture Authority for Culture and Antiquities aims, through this training program, to preserve heritage of traditional arts and crafts of minorities and build capacity of traditional crafts persons and artisans. The scheme aims at capacity building and updating the traditional skills of master crafts persons and artisans, by developing their knowledge and skills, raising their production and technical capabilities and their creative talents. BACA, keen to safeguard traditional knowledge and skills also aims to help the sector to achieve its sustainability and preserve it from extinction and to safeguard one of the authentic traditional components of the Intangible National Heritage.
