Bahrain Culture Authority Launches the Second Edition of the “The Young Archaeologist” Program Initiative

The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities launched the second edition of the "Young Archaeologist Program" in the "Jerry Al-Sheikh" area in Riffa, with a tripartite cooperation between the Culture Authority, the Ministry of Education and local NGOs. Around 20 public and private schools will participate in this season events, with nearly 1000 students. The training workshops for the "Young Archaeologist “program are part of the "Friends of Archeology" initiative, which was adopted by the Culture Authority in order to strengthen community partnership towards the preservation and preservation of archaeological heritage in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It will last for three consecutive months until January 2023.

Indeed, the main objective of the "Young Archaeologist" program revolves around enhancing the importance of archaeological sites in the Kingdom of Bahrain for children and youth, to provide an atmosphere of friendship and support while pursuing opportunities for learning in our common interest of ancient art and archaeology. Valuing and creating a culture related to archaeological finds, which will be provided on site, under the supervision of a an expert in archaeological excavation, treating, examining and exploring these artifacts later with tools similar to those used in real restorations. In addition, children will enjoy listening to a simplified explanation of the artifacts discovered.

Moreover, this program will certainly help children learn about archaeological sites in the Kingdom of Bahrain, richly endowed with historical artifacts dating back to different eras, in practical ways and in joyful outdoor atmosphere activities, in contrast to the traditional method of memorization and indoctrination.

In addition, it is hoped that the "Young Archaeologist" series of workshops will cover many regions of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which include rich and ancient archaeological sites, thus giving different groups of children the opportunity to learn about the importance of the archaeological sites in their surrounding environment.
